Job Description

Situated at Watt Road, Mornington, the Shire’s Community Animal Shelter provides a valuable service caring for abandoned or lost pets, reuniting pets with their owners and engaging with animal foster care networks.  More than 1300 dogs and 700 cats pass through the Community Animal Shelter each year.

The Animal Shelter team is seeking an experienced and suitably qualified individual to support the Co-ordinator in the smooth day-to-day running of the Shelter.  This position encompasses 5 days per week with some weekend work and relief work covering staff absences.

Job tasks and responsibilities

You will be able to provide quality customer service, have excellent knowledge of domestic animals and animal management/husbandry and handling skills, a good knowledge of office procedures including accurate data entry skill, and have an ability to learn the Shire’s corporate computer systems.

The successful applicant will be able to operate well in a busy working environment working with a diverse team and possess excellent verbal communication skills.

Skills and experience

Experience in an Animal Management role with qualifications in veterinary nursing, dog training, animal welfare & behaviour would be highly regarded.

Office administration experience with proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of programs and a Working with Children Check are required to undertake this role.
