This role is responsible for supporting and assisting with the implementation of initiatives relevant to the Council Plan and Operational plan for Social Planning and Community Development (SPCD).

Job tasks and responsibilities

The Social Planning & Community Development team is seeking an experienced Community Development Officer to organise and implement several community-led projects to advance the Shire’s Council Plan objectives including community infrastructure projects such as Men’s Sheds and Community Gardens.

You will lead and/or assist, as appropriate, the planning of community infrastructure projects and community development projects, including consultation with the community and other stakeholders throughout the life of the project.

Skills and experience

You will:

  • have a tertiary qualification in social sciences, community development, landscape architecture, recreational planning or an appropriate field of endeavour and/or significant relevant experience;
  • have demonstrated experience in supporting community committees, enabling the participation in local decision making and community development activities;
  • have experience in understanding the community’s capacity in how to best utilise strengths, skills and abilities of local residents and community groups to achieve community outcomes;
  • have an Employer Working with Children Check;
  • be prepared to undertake an Australian Criminal History Check;
  • hold a current Driver’s Licence.
