The role is based on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula, comprising magnificent landscapes, coasts and beaches and a strong sense of community.

Mornington Peninsula Shire is seeking to appoint an experienced and qualified person for the position of Equity and Inclusion Officer.

The position forms part of the Shire’s Social Planning and Community Development team who are committed to building and enhancing strong, resilient local communities.

The role will provide you with the opportunity to contribute to enhancing health and wellbeing outcomes for community members through promoting equity, inclusion, diversity and justice.

Job Tasks & Responsibilities

You will be required to work in partnership with local stakeholders and community members to support implementation of the Shire’s Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan, Access and Equity Policy and other relevant strategic documents. The role has a specific focus on disability access, gender equity, cultural diversity, human rights and social justice.

You will have a strong understanding of the Social Model of Health and sound experience in planning, implementing and evaluating evidence-based initiatives. You will also have strong experience in community and stakeholder engagement, advocacy and partnership development as well as high level written and oral communication skills and a commitment to working as part of a multi-faceted team.

Skills & Experience

You will have:

  • A tertiary/post graduate qualification in Health or Social Sciences, Social Policy, Community Development or a related field.
  • Relevant experience in:
    • health and wellbeing project coordination
    • policy analysis and applied social research;
    • social justice, community engagement and social policy development and implementation;
    • planning, implementing and evaluating evidence-based health promotion or community development initiatives;
    • establishing and maintaining professional networks and partnerships;
    • supporting public participation in decision making and community development activities

Applicants will have a  valid Working with Children Check, a current Driver’s licence and must be prepared to undertake an Australian Criminal History Check.
