Searoad Ferries operates a car and passenger ferry service between Queenscliff and Sorrento 365 days per year with the Head Office is located in Queenscliff.  Searoad Ferries is a major contributor to Tourism on the Mornington and Bellarine Peninsulas and is the recipient of many prestigious Tourism and People’s Choice awards.  To continue our constant growth we are seeking a professional and enthusiastic Financial Controller to join our friendly team.  We can offer full time or permanent part time (30 hrs per week) with flexible days and times to suit the successful candidate.

As the Financial Controller, you will perform a vital role in the business and your responsibilities will be broad, including but not limited to:

  • Management of the finance function – this is a hands on role.
  • Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
  • Process Payroll
  • Preparation of budgets, forecasts and cash flows
  • Bank Reconciliations
  • Maintenance of financial ledgers and accounting processes
  • Preparation of Monthly P&L and Balance Sheet
  • Financial reporting
  • Preparation & Lodgment of Statutory Returns
  • End of Financial Year Functions including liaise with external accountants to finalise EOY statutory reports including BAS, IAS and income tax returns
  • Ensuring that appropriate systems and internal controls are implemented and maintained
  • Insurance including Policy Renewals & Claims
  • Coordinate the provision of information for any audit
  • Supervision of a small Finance Team
  • Ensuring continuous financial and operational process improvements are carried out
  • Report closely and effectively with the CEO

To be successful in this role you must have a strong ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks and have a “can do” attitude. Your excellent communication and data entry skills along with your high proficiency in MS Office will help you secure this fantastic opportunity.  Previous experience within the Tourism Industry, Passenger Transport Industry and a working knowledge of Reckon/QuickBooks is an advantage.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Experience in a similar position 5years+;
  • Computer literate with good excel skills and solid understanding of accounting software principles;
  • Member of the Chartered Institute of Accountants or Australian Society of CPA’s is preferable.
