Phillip Island Nature Parks (“Nature Parks”) operate Australia’s most popular natural wildlife attraction and manages important natural assets incorporating 1,805 hectares across Phillip Island.  Welcoming over 1 million visitors to its attractions annually, it is managed by a Board of Management appointed by the Minister responsible for the Crown Land (Reserves) Act 1978.

Nature Parks is self-funding from revenue from its four main visitor venues; Penguin Parade, Koala Conservation Centre, Churchill Island and the Nobbies Centre.  As Phillip Island’s largest employer with a team of over 200, it is an extremely high profile organisation.

Nature Parks seeks to appoint a consultative, hands-on Financial Controller to lead the finance function, oversee the outsourced IT service provision and to be a commercial and strategic partner to the organisation.  The successful candidate will be a trusted advisor reporting directly to the CEO, with a finance skill set including audit, compliance, risk management and tax.  Managing a team of 6 finance staff, success in the role will depend on the ability to partner effectively with the management team, independent board, government and the local community.

A passion for tourism and conservation and deep experience with budgeting, forecasting, strategic planning and stakeholder management will be core to the successful candidate who secures this role.  Personally, the Financial Controller will possess a can-do attitude, strong work ethic, the highest levels of ethics, integrity and respect for a Not for profit organisation.  In a collaborative environment, they will be highly analytical and strategic in their approach, with an ability to interpret and work within detailed financial models and negotiate commercially with internal and external stakeholders.

A Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or Accounting coupled with a CA/CPA qualification will be essential in order to be considered for this opportunity.  Extensive experience managing a finance function and demonstrated expertise in project management are non-negotiable.
