Situated at Mount Martha on the Mornington Peninsula, The Briars is a 230ha property operated by the Mornington Peninsula Shire which encompasses a Wildlife Sanctuary, Heritage property, restaurant, Eco-Living Display Centre, Eco-Camp, Astronomy Centre and native Nursery.
This role is based at the Briars Nursery and contributes to the propagation and sale of native plants to the public, internal stakeholders and external groups. General nursery maintenance, liaising with stakeholders and coordinating the Heritage Garden Volunteers are all part of this exciting role.
Job Tasks & Responsibilities
You will work with a talented team to run the Nursery, ensuring quality plants are produced and excellent customer service is delivered. Knowledge of best-practice propagation techniques is essential as is taking a life-long learning approach to ensure sustainable practices are implemented. You will undertake general maintenance tasks to ensure the Nursery is a safe and visitor-friendly work space. Supporting groups including Landcare and Friend’s groups are critical aspects of this role, as is the coordination of the Briars Heritage Volunteers.
Skills & Experience
A certificate in Horticulture and several years’ experience in a similar environment is critical. You will have demonstrated an ability to provide excellent customer service and to work effectively in and contribute positively to a team.
The successful applicant must have a Level 2 First Aid Certificate, a Working with Children Check and a current Driver’s Licence prior to commencing employment with the Shire.
